A Personal Knowledge Management System : The Best Way To Create (anything)
Over the last few months I have been starting to build what most call a “second brain”.
A personal knowledge management system. I won’t go into the details on how to build it, or the detailed systems people create around it because there are other people on the interwebs that do it much better than I can. If you’re interested check out Linking Your Thinking of Ali Abdaal on YouTube. Both of those resources will get you started.
The reason I wanted to share with you about this is since I have started with my very simplified version of a PKM I have been able to collect my thoughts, have a centralized location for ideas, and writes even more than I have before.
Originally when I started my personal knowledge management system, I thought I wanted to track my whole life inside of it. But, as it turns out, my goal is far less audacious than that. I wanted a way to track notes and thoughts from reading, or listening to podcasts and audible, so I could then process and develop new ideas from those notes.
So I simplified my PKM down to using only software that gives me a place to collect notes, highlights, and random ideas (I use Drafts, Evernote, and Mymind), and a tool to process that information (I use Obsidian for processing). There are a few tools in between that allow them to sync, but they’re less important.
The point in writing all of this is to simply share with you, if you want to be more prolific in generating more ideas and connecting them to your larger world, explore creating a personal knowledge management system (A second brain).
You will be amazed at how much easier it is to have your interests, ideas, and research, all in one place that can link to one another when you are trying to create anything.
PS- I’m writing this from my phone poolside as I recharge for 2022.
