True Leaders Recruit For Their Team

Sales Leaders.

Have you said in the past that you cannot find talent for your team?

OR

Have you been saying how the talent acquisition team is not surfacing the best candidates to help you grow at the rate you want?

Recruiting for your team should not be left to talent acquisition alone.

It is easy to blame the talent acquisition team. It is too easy, and it is the lazy way out.

Yes, they should be helping find, organize, and funnel talent through your teams.

BUT (and here's the part you may not like) it is part of your job as well.

Each month you should be recruiting for every level in your sales organization.

From entry-level all the way up to the directors that support you.

Here is a method to help you find talented and qualified people for your team:

  1. Take a look at your current team and determine who your best sellers AND most coachable team members are. Target one of them.

  2. Schedule a meeting with that person and let them know you are interested in helping them earn that referral bonus by going through their network on Linkedin and discussing possible candidates that you can recruit.

  3. Have them come up with a list of 5-10 people we should be talking to.

  4. You will be able to hear their honest thoughts on each of them, why they should or should not be recruited.

  5. Once you have created a list of 2-3 candidates, reach out to them directly and let them know there is a role that you'd like to speak to them about. (also, make sure the TA team knows you are reaching out to them as well so their resume gets through the ATS software)

Can you imagine if you are contacted directly by the VP of sales, or a Director and THEY want to talk to YOU about a new role?

How impressed would you be?

When you reach out to them via Inmail, or email, do not forget to solicit another referral.

"Hi Jane, I work with Company X and Jerrod recommended I reach out to you for the Account Executive role we have available. Here are some of the details....

... Would you, or know of anyone like you be interested in speaking to me about becoming part of our team at Company X?"

Now that you have made contact with these prospects, remember to follow up with them, explain the hiring process and timeline, and be upfront about salary range and OTE goals.

This whole process can take less than an hour a month and you will find gems, extend your recruiting reach and build an awesome team.
